Help build the Hive! Join us at the 2nd Hive Waterloo Region Member Meetup!
Hive WR Member Meetups are opportunities to hear about the amazing work being done in our community to help everyone take advantage of technology and have access to opportunities. They are also the place we bring challenges to find partners and collaborators to address those challenges.
This meetup features Lightning Talks from members like KidsAbility, Parents for Community Living, University of Waterloo and Ready2Grow, plus Jesse Wilson of Square, and updates from Hive WR, a brainstorm on addressing diversity, and lots of networking and collaboration opportunities!
6pm: Check in and networking
7pm: Lightning Talks and Hive WR updates
7:45pm: Brainstorming on diversity
8:10: more networking
These fast and focused five minute presentations are both informative and thought-provoking. Hear about the challenges and barriers being faced by people in our community and get inspired by the ways we can work to help, and by the work already being done:
- Dorothy McCabe is Director of Community and Organizational Development for the KidsAbility Centre for Child Development. She will share the real life challenges KidsAbility clients face daily with the limitations of existing technologies. Are there solutions available to address these challenges, or do they need to be built? She’s got ideas and wants your input!
- Kathy Loveys, Executive Director for Parents for Community Living, will talk about PCL’s Computer Apprenticeship Program, which teaches youth with developmental disabilities computer technical skills that will enable them to get jobs in our community.
- Lyndia Stacey, is Engineering Outreach Coordinator at the University of Waterloo. She is fascinated by the friction of digital vs analogue and will present some ideas on the future world of work and communications.
- Jesse Wilson of Square will talk about how using Twitter has helped him to recognize his biases and how he’s now using it to be more inclusive.
